Created exclusively for the Asian market in 2008 by those who know and are intimately involved in the region, the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition was the first truly Asian wine and spirit competition in the world. The competition is judged by Asia’s most esteemed tasters from all across the continent, including the competition’s Directors, Hong Kong based Debra Meiburg MW and Christie’s Head of Wine for China Simon Tam.
The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition is committed to promoting its winners’ success, whether through the profiling they receive in the Cathay Pacific Discovery Magazine, through the competition’s network of media partners including The Drinks Business Hong Kong and Hong Kong Tatler and through our partnership with the HKTDC Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair. Additionally the competition runs the popular Test Your Palate event where guests can try their skills at judging the very same products tasted earlier by the judges.
Not only does the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition judge international wine and spirits in Asia, it also allows wines to be judged against key Asian dishes from China, India and Thailand helping producers and consumers understand the complex interplay in wine and food pairing. The competition is also dedicated to recognising the growing quality of wine produced in Asia with specific trophies awarded for Best Wine from China and Best Wine from Japan.
