Whether you are looking for an ideal place to surprise your significant other, celebrate an anniversary, or just to bask in each other’s love, we have selected the five most romantic restaurants in Europe where each has its unrivalled magic to mark your occasion and send your taste-buds on a trip to heaven.
La Ferme Saint Simon, Paris
The ‘city of love’ has plenty of romantic restaurants – some are so small and intimate that you find yourself half listening to the conversation on the next table inches away, while others are so clinical that you remain uptight throughout the entire meal. If your ideal romantic setting is a tête-à-tête where you can relax in a comfortable leather seat, enjoy superb French cuisine and attentive service in a refined yet unpretentious setting, then Le Ferme Saint Simon is the place to go. Keeping true to its Bourgeois culture, its menu changes with the seasons and largely market-today-fresh. The best thing is: the bill won’t make your eyes water.
This two-star Michelin restaurant has fast becoming one of the most famous restaurants in Europe. The food is highly innovative and each plate is presented like an art masterpiece with flavours reflecting superb cooking skills and fine seasonable ingredients. You can book a table in the charming courtyard or in the stylish dining room built from reclaimed bricks. Expect excellent food and attentive service – a fine dining experience that you will always remember and cherish.
De Belhamel, Amsterdam
Situated where the Brouwersgracht crosses the Herengracht in the heart of Amsterdam, De Belhamel offers guests a dining experience based on fantastic modern cuisine in a dreamy setting which is enhanced by the magnificent views over the canal. Inside, the décor is something out of early 20th century Paris, with various genuine art nouveau features. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming, the big smile from the waiters will instantly put you at ease. During the summer months, you can sit outside on the terrace and watch the world go by.
Torre d’Alta Mar, Barcelona, Spain
Dining at an old cable car station set at 75-m (250 feet) above Barcelona can guarantee one thing: a 360-degree splendid view of the city and sea below. Located in Passeig Joan de Borbó, this restaurant welcomes a fair share of celebrities and well-heeled clients, along with visitors to Spain who love great Spanish food. The menu revolves around fish and seafood. The wine list is extensive and dessert is superb. Time your reservation with sunset for a truly unforgettable experience.
The Summer Cave, Polignano a Mare, Italy
Nestled in a limestone cave looking out to the clear blue Adriatic Sea, this restaurant is heart-meltingly romantic. You can hear the soothing sound of the ocean waves below and even meet a few curious pigeons flying in for a quick look around. Its polished wooden floors and natural furnishings harmonise with its unique setting. This restaurant is open from May to October. Lately its food and service have not received the greatest of reviews, something which we hope would change soon.
We will continue to feature many more restaurants in Europe over the coming months so watch this space.
